Marble wall sconce

16 products

Marble brings the wall sconce a density and a veining that nothing truly imitates. This selection of wall sconces gathers models where the stone serves as a shade, a base or a counterweight. Depending on the thickness of the slice, it blocks the light or lets it show through.

Veining that decides everything

White streaked with grey, green with bold ribbons, black crossed with white: every block has its own drawing. As the cut follows the vein, two sconces from the same run show different patterns, which explains the gap between the photograph and the piece received.

The finish alters the reading further. A mirror polish heightens the contrasts and returns reflections; a honed matt calms the pattern and brings out the feel of the stone. Marble is most often paired with a warm metal, as on our brass wall sconces.

Translucency and diffusion

Cut into a thin plate, pale marble becomes partly translucent: the light passes through it and reveals its network of veins from within. The effect only works with a close, diffuse source, and it calls for even stone, with no cracks running right through.

On models with thick stone, the role is reversed: the marble masks the source and returns the output to the wall or the ceiling. The result is a clean ambient light, free of glare, close to what our designer wall sconces produce in frosted glass.

Fitting stone to a wall

Weight is the first point to examine. A marble sconce often weighs several kilos and calls for plugs suited to the support: plasterboard, hollow brick and concrete do not call for the same fixing. A wide mounting plate spreads the load better.

As for rooms, stone naturally finds its place above a sideboard, a fireplace or a sofa; our living room wall sconces gather other formats on this scale. In a shower room, avoid acidic products when cleaning, as they dull the surface.

The variants in this selection

White marble and alabaster

The pale tone keeps the light soft and marries with neutral walls. It is on these pieces that the translucency shows best, above all in a thin slice.

Dark stones

Black marble wall sconce

Black veined with white plays in a wholly different register: it draws the eye and works better as a single sconce than in an aligned run. On a pale wall, the contrast is immediate.

Stone and metal

The metal forms the arm and the fixing, the stone the disc or the band. The assembly stays visible and is part of the design; look at how cleanly the two materials meet.

A soft dry cloth is enough for everyday care, polished stone being wary above all of limescale products.
