LED wall sconce
Lighting without dazzling: that is what an LED source allows, compact enough to slip in where a traditional fitting would take up too much room. The diode makes flat profiles, directed beams and a chosen rather than imposed warmth of light possible. Within the family of wall sconces, these models stand out for their precision more than for their volume.
Fine lines made possible by the diode
A diode takes up little space and heats up moderately, which means it can be housed in a profile a few millimetres deep. The design is freed as a result: vertical bars, continuous arcs, plates set flat against the partition. The body becomes a support for light as much as an object to look at.
The finishes follow the same spirit of restraint. Anodised aluminium and painted steel dominate, often paired with an opal diffuser that softens the line. Models in metal embrace the exposed structure and the crisp edge, while versions clad in glass let the source sit flush behind a translucent wall, for a more enveloping halo.
Temperature, beam and intensity
Three settings determine the result. Colour temperature, expressed in kelvins, places the light between the amber of late afternoon and the plain white of a worktop. Below 3000 K, the atmosphere warms up; above it, outlines harden and reading gains in sharpness.
Then comes the shape of the beam: tight to pick out a picture, wide to wash a whole wall with an even sheet of light. Many models combine the two, with diffusion upwards and downwards. Compatibility with a dimmer is worth checking before buying, since it depends on the built-in driver and not on the diode itself.
Placement and uses by room
In a bedroom, the mounting height is set by the seated position: the bottom of the diffuser around 1.20 m from the floor keeps the halo out of the eyes and lights the pages of a book properly. That is the principle of reading lights fixed either side of the bed, found again in the selection of sconces for a headboard.
Elsewhere, the logic changes. A hallway takes a regular rhythm, every two to three metres, at shoulder height. A shower room calls for a protection rating suited to the installation zone. A staircase benefits from grazing light that marks the nosing without casting a shadow on the flight above.

The horizontal or vertical bar visually stretches the wall and spreads the light along its whole length. It suits flat circulation areas, where a single point of light would hollow out dark zones. Common lengths run from 30 to 90 cm.

The swivel arm moves the beam according to the use of the moment: folded back against the wall when idle, extended above a reading surface. This mobility often replaces a standing lamp and frees up the surface of the bedside table or the desk.
Indirect diffusion

Two opposing openings throw light towards the ceiling and towards the floor, drawing a luminous hourglass on the partition. The contrast stays soft and the source remains invisible from the line of movement. This kind of diffusion goes well with textured walls.
A constant shade of white from one fitting to the next is often enough to unify a run of rooms.
